Hurlingham Open
November 14, 2020
La Dolfina Saudi & RS Murus Sanctus set to play first semifinal
14 Nov. 2020
The 127th Hurlingham Open kicked off on Saturday, with two attractive matches. First up, La Dolfina Saudi defeated La Ensenada La Aguada, before RS Murus Sanctus beat Los Machitos.
As was the case with the Tortugas Open, the tournament is being played on single elimination, and no spectators are allowed into the grounds of the Alfredo Lalor Headquarters of the Argentine Association of Polo in Pilar. Only official media can enter, as long as they comply with the strict hygiene and safety protocols.
In the opening match, title holders La Dolfina Saudi – boasting the return of 10-goaler Pablo MacDonough to the field- easily dominated La Ensenada La Aguada to claim an impressive 15-4 win. While the first chukka was a balanced affair, ending 2-all, La Dolfina took control of the match as of the second chukka, where they outscored La Ensenada La Aguada 4-0, with Pablo McDonough and Poroto Cambiaso scoring two goals apiece.
La Dolfina Saudi’s held La Ensenada La Aguada scoreless over the next three chukkas. They converted nine goals, taking a comfortable 11-2 advantage by half time. La Ensenada La Aguada suffered in the third chukka, when Matias Torres Zavaleta left the field due to an injury on his right knee. He was replaced by a Triple Crown newcomer, young gun Peke Gonzalez.

Les Lions Panarea win Open de France
21 Sep. 2020
The Open de France came to an end on Sunday at Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly after a great final between Les Lions Panarea and Talandracas. The tournament, which celebrated its twentieth anniversary this year, saw the Castagnola brothers, Barto (19) and Camilo (17), go head to head in the thrilling final.
After a fast paced first chukka with no fouls, Les Lions Panarea found their rhythm and took control of the match. It seemed as if Les Lions Panarea had sealed the deal, but Talandracas fought back and narrowed the gap down to one goal (7-6). That’s when Dillon Bacon’s team, with Barto Castagnola as the top scorer, having converted five goals himself, held their rivals back and secured a three goal advantage. Despite the efforts made by Edouard Carmignac’s team, there was no coming back for Talandracas.
It was a very memorable final. Those lucky enough to catch the final in Paris, or watch it live via PoloLine TV, will remember the time when Barto and Camilo Castagnola played a final against each other for the first time ever. Tommy Beresford, who is on his way to becoming a top class top player, gave a spectacular performance in the final. As did Dillon Bacon, one of the best players of the season in Europe, and Aristide Faggionato, whose remarkable contributions were crucial for the victory.
This year’s Open de France was spectacular in its own right, proving that it is always a highlight of the European season.

MT Vikings 9 – 8 Polo Stud Schockemohle
17 Aug 2020
Two close games today confirmed who would be playing Monterosso and Next Generation in Thursday’s subsidiary semi-finals. The first match today saw Siri Bazzoni not only return to her MT Vikings team but score too. Their opponents this morning were a higher-handicapped Polo Stud Schockemohle team. Looking for their first win in this tournament the German-based team were playing the four-goaler Charlie Hanbury in place of their patron Ekard Joules. This new strategy appeared to be paying off for them in the early stages of the match. They were 2-1 up after the first chukka and were 4-2 up in the second. Failing to score at all in the third was the turning point in this game though. MT Vikings may have only added one further goal to their tally at half-time but the dynamics in this match had slightly shifted. MT Vikings levelled the scores to 5-5 in the fourth and not only pulled away in the fifth but managed to maintain that all-important one-goal advantage on the final whistle. This team performance has earned MT Vikings a date with Next Generation on Thursday at midday.
